To the Editor:
Fact No. 1: Enough sunlight falls on the earth’s surface every hour to meet the world’s energy demand for an entire year.
Fact #2: Jonathan Smith, the Democratic candidate for the New York Assembly’s 102nd district, (the towns of Hyde Park, Clinton, Poughkeepsie, LaGrange, Wappingers and Fishkill), is committed to a new energy economy. That new economy is based on solar in all its myriad forms, including, but not limited to, the direct conversion of sunlight to electricity through photo-voltaic cells (PVs). This translates directly into clean energy and jobs for our state in the fabrication and installation of solar panels on individual homes and commercial buildings.
Jonathan Smith knows that the solution to our nation’s energy crisis is multi-faceted. We need to turn to alternatives that are renewable to break our addiction to fossil fuels. PVs, wind turbines, the fuel cell, co-generation where applicable and enhanced conservation measures are just some of those paths that could lead to energy independence and a cleaner environment.
At a time when manufacturing jobs are leaving our country, and our dependence on imported oil from unstable regions of the world deepens, we need to send an assemblyman to Albany with the vision to reverse decades of inaction.
Jonathan Smith has that vision.
