City of Poughkeepsie police on Wednesday identified a suspect in the murder of city resident Janice A. Williams, 48, who was found lying dead outside 691 Main St. at 5:19 a.m. on June 21.
Police are seeking Oscar Romero, a Honduran citizen whose last known address was an apartment at 691 Main St. Police say he is 5’8” tall and believe that he has left the area.
In a press conference on June 25, Det. Sgt. Matthew Clark said Romero should be considered armed and dangerous.
Williams’ murder was the second in the city in two days, following the shooting of Naquan James, 22, in a parking lot near Cannon Street in the early morning of June 20. Police have said that there is no connection between the two murders.
Williams was stabbed and thrown from Romero’s apartment window, with the cause of death determined to be multiple stab wounds, police said. According to police, Romero shares the apartment with four other people, some of whom are related to him. Police have already interviewed all other occupants of the apartment, and said Romero left the scene before Williams’ body was found.
Anyone with information in either case is asked to call the city detective division at 451-4142 or the tip line at 451-7577. All calls will be kept confidential.
