To the Editor:
City Democratic Chairman Brian Doyle and three of his fellow Democratic councilmen are playing games at the expense of the City of Poughkeepsie.
During his comments at the Jan. 7 Common Council meeting, Doyle stated he is “making every effort to put aside partisanship and matters of party.”
When an offer by Mr. Andrew Tkazyik, the mayor’s father, to purchase two city-owned parcels which have been off the tax rolls for over 20 years and are land-locked by Tkazyik’s property, the property was assessed at $6,000 and Tkazyik offered $3,000. If approved and back on the tax rolls, the city would first gain $3,000 from the sale and $200-$400 per year in taxes. First of all, Doyle and his associate, Dennis Weinel, voted against it. Councilmen Mallory and Rich were either so dense or used this as a front to see that the city would be in a win-win position if they approved they also added their votes against selling.
I feel this is a direct act of harassment of the mayor’s family and a lack of good responsibility in leadership, which is resulting in lost revenue each year, even though small, and a lack of support of local business that will cost the city as they have to maintain the property.
Now gentlemen, get off your royal Democrat high horse and work for what is best for the City of Poughkeepsie.
