To the Editor:
I attended the recent Common Council meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 19, and was very intrigued by the discussion concerning the water board’s decision to remove fluoride from city water. I was also greatly distressed by this decision. Based on the water board’s presentation, I believe that the research they performed, while very factual, lacked the opinions of qualified doctors from our region who could tell if any illnesses in the area could be credited to the fluoride in the water.
I’ve been a City of Poughkeepsie resident for my entire life and drink the city water every day. I believe that the fluoride in the water has ensured the health of my teeth and bones during my life. It is my hope that fluoride remains in the water for many years to come so it can help others, just as it helped me.

To the Editor:
I am a participation in government student at Poughkeepsie High School and I recently attended the Common Council meeting on Feb. 19 about the water issue. I like the way things are organized, especially when each person is given three minutes in a 45-minute period. That is a great way to make sure the meeting does not continue on for hours. Everyone who spoke was very prepared and brought good facts to share.
After attending my first Common Council meeting I now hope to attend more throughout the rest of the year.
