To the Editor:
Gary Levine grew up in the Poughkeepsie area and spent his adult years as an attorney helping area residents, the elderly, the single moms and the disadvantaged. Gary knows the community and the challenges we face, and he wants an opportunity to fix them. He is seeking the Democratic nomination to run against Joel Miller in the state Assembly.
Gary Levine sees the struggles people have with property taxes and the detrimental effects they have on families and businesses on a daily basis. Gary will fight for a real property tax cut, not a tax cap. He will work to find a tax fairness solution for areas with significant tax-exempt properties that are overburdened as a result of providing emergency services.
Gary Levine is vocal about his opponent Joel Miller’s inability to help reduce the tax burden. Miller makes press by saying bus stops are in the wrong location. He’s mailed us literature containing pictures of him with a policeman or speaking before a school board, giving the impression that he really has done something. But when you come right down to it, Joel Miller has not been able to substantially increase aid to our fire departments or help reduce the tax burden on our families and citizens.
Gary Levine is doing a door-to-door, person-to-person, house party-to-house party campaign where you can meet, see and measure him. Gary Levine wants to get your vote the old-fashioned way he wants to earn it.
