Thank you to 7th Ward voters

To the Editor:

I would like to thank all the residents in the 7th Ward who voted for me. We won with a landslide, and became the third most powerful ward in the City of Poughkeepsie. You should be very proud of yourself, and utilize that power to demand the services that we need in our ward. I will continue the challenge of representing us in the unique situation of having three schools in our ward (Smith Magnet, Poughkeepsie High and the Middle School).

We also have two parks, one is King Street Park, the official home of Little League baseball, and the other is Pershing Avenue Park. We’ve had many improvements done with new benches, grills and the new basketball court at King Street. But there are still a lot of upgrades needed (ex. playground improvements), along with street repairs, tree planting and trimming throughout our ward. But most importantly the traffic calming on Grand Avenue by DOT.

So congratulations Mr. Tkazyik on your election as mayor, you have a big job ahead of you. And we look forward to working with you as you address the needs of not only the riverfront and Main Street, but also the rest of the city that affects the rest of us.

As we start a New Year, I can not forget the Democratic Committee, Fred and Fran Knapp, Roger Christenfeld, Ms Dot Lee, Dr. Wilson and my dear husband Randall Johnson for all your love and support.

Gwen C. Johnson

Councilwoman (D-7th Ward)
