Letters to the Editor:

School board agenda should be re-ordered

To the Editor:

The way the Board of Education meetings are run should be changed a little bit. Non-agenda items should be first, before the meeting. Agenda items should be talked about after the presentation so opinions and flaws can be discussed. That way, people could talk about what they need to and leave instead of sitting through a whole meeting they don’t care about. That way they could say what they have to and leave.

For example, at the meeting on Oct. 26, people had things to do and just wanted to get their words in. The meetings would probably run smoother that way. Just try it, and if it doesn’t work, then go back to the old way. Also, they should have a dialogue with somebody, instead of asking all their questions at once, the board wouldn’t have to remember the questions. Some people tend to have a follow-up question, depending on the person.

Thanks for support in 3rd Ward

To the Editor:

I would like to express a “thank you” to voters of the 3rd Ward of the City of Poughkeepsie for your support and for electing me as your councilman. As councilman, I believe by listening to our community and working together it empowers the residents of the City of Poughkeepsie to have their voices heard.

I look forward to working with the mayor and my colleagues on the Common Council to continue the progress in the City of Poughkeepsie.

Robert “Bob” Mallory

Councilman-elect (D-3rd Ward)

Thank you for Election Day support

To the Editor:

I would like to take an opportunity to thank the residents of both the Town of Wappinger and Village of Wappingers Falls for the support I received once again on Election Day. Being in the unique position of having to run for office for three years in a row has given me a great opportunity to meet many more residents personally as well as reunite with others. I appreciate the confidence you have given me to continue to represent your interests on our Town Board.

If you have ideas, issues, or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me at 224-4082. I also invite you to visit my Web site at www.TheFirstWard.org.

Continuing to serve you as your councilman is both an honor and a privilege. Thank you.

Students have a lot to deal with

To the Editor:

Never say that a Poughkeepsie High School senior student does not have a lot of stress. Not only are these young adults getting ready to embark on a new journey that will impact the rest of their lives; they are now faced with daily stressful events in school:

• Having a substitute teacher for a Regents class that also requires a lab requirement in order to take the Regents. With Mobijohn’s paid absence, there has been no clarification made to parents or students that students will be able to take the June 2008 exam. Other classes Mobijohn was teaching are also wondering what will happen with grades needed to graduate.

• Having administration make an impossibly huge deal about wearing a hat to school when in just a few months, it won’t matter.

• Not having a written timeline of events that revolve around being a senior to bring home to the parents so monies will be available in a proper time.

• Hoping that administration will realize that CASS is faulty, and come June 2008 a senior won’t be pulled off graduation line because of inaccurate attendance.

• Lack of communication from administration about anything student-focused.

•Raising enough money to have a prom.

• Making sure you (students) don’t get into a fight for bumping into someone in the hall.

• Saying no to drugs/alcohol.

• Maintain abstinence, practicing safe sex and not getting an STD or pregnant.

• Dealing with potential bomb scares.

I did not include clothes, money, schoolwork, home life, peer pressure and societal expectations, Whew! Please support our PCSD students.
