Anderson School Construction Delayed

The construction of a housing complex for Anderson School students could face lengthy delays due to the town’s recently adopted zoning laws.

The Town Board adopted the laws earlier in the month. The new laws stipulate that any project that was not granted preliminary approval by the planning board prior to the guidelines adoption would have to reapply for subdivision approval.

Anderson School Executive Director Neil Pollack requested a public hearing at the board’s Oct. 5 meeting, but was told that the earliest the case could be heard was at the Oct. 19 meeting.

The school wants to begin excavation this fall for the first part of a five-phase project.

Town Board News

Jeffery C. Horst has resigned from his position on the town recreation commission. Councilwoman Victoria Kane (D-2nd Ward) praised Horst’s contributions and expressed hope that he might volunteer again in the future.

“It’s a great loss for the town,” she said.

Also, Lori Hicks, secretary to Supervisor Yancy McArthur, has donated $1,248 towards the purchase of a defibrillator for town hall. Hicks made the donation in memory of her father, Joseph A. Edmonds.

Earlier in the month, at a workshop, the town board approved a motion to acquire two new defibrillators.
