A local developer is seeking an infusion of new homes in Wappinger.
At the Town Board meeting this week, officials discussed a proposal to build a 51-unit townhouse project off Old Hopewell Road and Route 9D, behind the Town Hall property on Middlebush Road in Wappinger.
Kurt Kuehner, owner of Fishkill-based developing firm Prime Equities, said at the June 13 meeting that his firm is under contract to purchase the land, called the Preserve Subdivision, for the project. Kuehner said they have been seeking site plan approval for the proposed project from the Town of Wappinger Planning Board for nearly the last 18 months.
“We’re hoping to get this approved later this year,” Kuehner said.
Mark Day, the engineer for the project, said the townhouse development would have one entrance on Old Hopewell Road and one entrance on Route 9D.
Day said they are seeking a temporary easement from the Town Board because they want to drill to install water supply wells for the proposed project. In order to do that, the developers want a temporary easement to have the vehicles and equipment cross town property to access the Preserve Subdivision.
According to Day, the developers are requesting the easement to avoid crossing wetland areas on the subdivision to get to the drilling location.
“It would be a 60-day easement,” Day said.
Town officials are now going to review the request before making a decision on the easement.
“They requested a temporary easement for the purpose of finding out how much water the wells would produce,” Town Supervisor Joseph Ruggiero said.
Day said he does not know when a decision will be made.
